With extensive experience teaching guitar and bass, Alex has worked with students of all ages, from young children to adults. He has successfully prepared students for grade exams, guiding them through both the ABRSM and Trinity Rock & Pop syllabuses. Alex is also skilled in running guitar ensembles, where he helps students develop their skills in harmony, rhythm, and ensemble performance. In addition to his hands-on teaching approach, Alex is proficient in using music software such as Protools, Logic, Sibelius, Guitar Pro, and Ableton Live. He uses these tools to compose, record ideas, and create custom backing tracks and improvisation exercises tailored to each student's needs. To support learning, he notates teaching materials using Sibelius, Guitar Pro, and Neck Diagrams, ensuring that students have personalized handouts to reinforce the concepts covered in lessons.
Alex's educational background is equally impressive. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music (Jazz) from Middlesex University, where he studied under some of the UK's top musicians. His mentors included Nikki Iles for harmony, theory, and jazz performance; Chris Batchelor, Rob Townsend, and Gareth Williams for improvisation; Stuart Hall for composition and arranging; and world-class American bassist Michael Janisch, with whom Alex studied double bass one-on-one. These experiences have shaped Alex's teaching style, allowing him to offer a rich, well-rounded musical education to his students.
