Instruments:
Piano, Composition, Saxophone

Patrick is a pianist, saxophonist, and composer with extensive training and experience across both classical and jazz. He studied at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music on a full scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Jazz, Improvisation, and Composition, and went on to complete a Master of Music in Composition at the Maastricht Conservatorium.
What makes Patrick unique is the way he has approached his musical journey. Alongside his conservatoire training, he first developed as a self-taught musician, exploring piano through his own curiosity and creativity before moving into formal study. This blend of learning experiences means he understands the many different ways students come to music — whether through self-discovery, structured lessons, or the pressure of exams. He draws on this to adapt lessons to each student, creating an environment that can be playful and creative, or focused and goal-oriented.
Patrick teaches piano at all levels, right up to advanced university standard, and saxophone to Grade 8 and beyond. On both instruments, he combines strong classical foundations with a love of jazz and improvisation, encouraging students to explore music not just as written notes, but as a language for expression and creativity. He has taught privately and in music schools in Australia, the Netherlands, and online worldwide, working with students of all ages and levels. His teaching has included preparing students for exams, arranging bespoke music to match their interests, and supporting SEN learners. His ability to arrange and compose means that no piece of music is out of reach — he frequently creates tailored versions so students can play the music they love.
Patrick’s performance experience is equally wide-ranging. As a professional pianist in Melbourne, he performed long sets of repertoire spanning classical, jazz, film, and popular music entirely from memory, developing the stamina and artistry required for high-level continuous performance. On saxophone, he is equally at home in both classical repertoire and improvisation, performing as a soloist and in ensembles, with a particular flair for jazz styles. As a composer, he is able to write for ensembles of any size and instrumentation, giving him a creative perspective that feeds directly into his teaching.
Through both teaching and performance, Patrick brings versatility, imagination, and inclusivity. He helps students connect with music in ways that suit them personally — whether that means working towards excellence in exams, building improvisation skills, or simply playing for enjoyment and self-expression.
