Clarinet, Saxophone

Andrew is an experienced clarinet and saxophone teacher with a deep passion for helping students explore and enjoy music. With over two decades of teaching experience, he has worked with students of all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced players. He takes a holistic approach to learning, incorporating not just instrumental technique but also musicianship, theory, improvisation, and harmony—tailoring lessons to each student’s individual interests and strengths.
In addition to teaching clarinet and saxophone privately, Andrew also works as a specialist primary school music teacher, introducing young children to music through an immersive and exploratory approach that nurtures curiosity and expression.
Growing up in a family of classical musicians, Andrew developed a strong foundation in classical music before expanding into jazz, earning a first-class degree in Music from Oxford University and a Distinction in Jazz Performance from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. His musical journey later led him to Brazilian choro, a rich and expressive style of music that he has studied in depth, becoming the UK’s leading proponent of choro on clarinet.
Alongside teaching, Andrew is a highly regarded performer. His performance career has taken him to major venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scott’s, and international festivals across Europe, the USA, and Brazil. He believes his performing experience directly enriches his teaching, helping students to build confidence, creativity, and a deeper connection to music.
