How Lessons Work

Finding the Right Teacher

We take the time to carefully match each student with a teacher who we feel will be a great fit, taking into account their interests, goals and the teacher’s experience and specialist areas.

Once you’ve been matched with a teacher, we offer a trial lesson to give you the opportunity to get to know them, experience their teaching style and see whether the lessons feel like a good fit for you.

We ask for trial lessons to paid in advance, at least 24 hours before the lesson, so that teachers can be paid promptly for their time.

Ongoing Lessons and Payment

Once you’ve started lessons, you’re welcome to contact your teacher directly with any questions, or to discuss lesson arrangements and changes.

Lessons are invoiced half-termly in advance, following Haringey school term dates. If your lessons start partway through a half-term, your invoice will be adjusted to cover the remaining lessons within that period.

Invoices are sent at the beginning of each half-term, and we ask that payment is made within seven days.

Lesson Cancellations

Lesson times are reserved for each student, so regular attendance helps us maintain a consistent timetable for both students and teachers. This also helps students maintain momentum, build confidence and enjoy the sense of progress that comes from developing their skills over time.

We understand that sometimes plans change and lessons need to be missed. If you need to cancel a lesson, please contact your teacher as soon as you know. We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice wherever possible, giving your teacher time to manage their timetable.

Make-Up Lessons

For cancellations where at least 48 hours’ notice is given, teachers will endeavour to offer an alternative lesson time, taking into account the availability of both the student and teacher. This might include another suitable lesson slot, an online lesson, a lesson during the holidays, or adding a few extra minutes to future lessons. Make-up lessons can be arranged throughout the academic year and should be completed by the end of August, when the make-up period resets for the new academic year.

Less Than 48 Hours’ Notice

Where less than 48 hours’ notice is given, an alternative lesson may not always be possible due to the short notice. Teachers will still do their best to rearrange where their timetable allows.

We understand occasional cancellations are sometimes unavoidable. If lessons are missed regularly, however, we may need to get in touch to discuss the arrangement and find a way forward that continues to work well for both the student and teacher. As teachers have busy and varied timetables, it may not always be possible to arrange every missed lesson when cancellations become frequent.

If you’re feeling slightly unwell, but would still like to go ahead with your lesson, please check with your teacher beforehand. Some teachers may be happy to continue lessons with mild symptoms, while others may prefer to reschedule or move the lesson online where possible.

If your teacher needs to cancel a lesson, they'll let you know as soon as possible and contact you to arrange an alternative lesson time.

Lessons Outside Term Time

If you'd like to continue lessons during the holidays, please feel free to speak to your teacher about availability .

Ending Lessons

If you decide to stop lessons, we ask for one calendar month's notice. This gives your teacher time to plan their timetable and offer the lesson space to another student.
