Talia is a London-based soprano and vocal teacher who teaches classical, musical theatre and contemporary singing to children, teenagers and adults. Her lessons are warm, encouraging and individually tailored, helping pupils develop healthy vocal technique, musicianship and confidence while, most importantly, enjoying singing.

Talia graduated with a First-Class degree in Music Performance from the University of Leeds, where she was awarded a prize for achieving the highest overall academic performance in her graduating class. As part of her degree, she spent a year studying at the University of California, Santa Cruz, performing roles including Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Cinderella in Sondheim’s Into the Woods. Alongside her performance training, she has undertaken specialist vocal-pedagogy training at Berklee College of Music in Boston, developing her understanding of vocal anatomy, physiology and healthy, sustainable technique across both classical and contemporary styles.

Talia particularly enjoys making vocal technique clear and accessible, helping pupils understand how their voice works rather than simply being told what to do. Having had music lessons herself from the age of four, she understands the experience of being a pupil as well as a teacher. She believes that the best lessons are ones where pupils feel comfortable, understood and encouraged to try things without worrying about getting them wrong.

With more than five years’ experience working with children as a youth leader, Talia particularly enjoys building positive relationships with young people and creating lessons where pupils feel safe, supported and proud of their progress.

Talia teaches complete beginners through to more experienced singers preparing for exams, auditions and performances. She is very familiar with the ABRSM Singing and Musical Theatre syllabuses and has created detailed repertoire guides covering the songs and requirements for each grade. For pupils who want to work towards an exam, she takes an encouraging and collaborative approach, selecting repertoire that suits each pupil’s voice, ability and personality and giving them a choice of pieces so that they feel genuinely excited about what they are singing. Her aim is always to help pupils develop healthy technique, musicianship and performance confidence while understanding and enjoying their own voice.

Alongside teaching, Talia continues to perform as a soprano across opera, musical theatre, concerts, weddings and private events. Her performance experience includes appearances with Leeds Baroque, at St Mark’s Basilica in Venice, Lauderdale House in London and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as winning first prize at the Santa Cruz Baroque Festival Youth Vocal Competition.

Whether a pupil is completely new to singing, hoping to work towards an exam, preparing for an audition or simply wants to become a more confident singer, Talia’s aim is to help them understand and enjoy their voice, develop their skills and feel proud of what they can achieve.
