Tom is a highly experienced music teacher and multi-instrumentalist who teaches guitar, piano, and bass, with over 20 years of experience. He has worked with hundreds of pupils both privately and across a wide range of London schools, supporting students at all levels from beginners to advanced.
A seasoned professional, Tom has studied extensively, gaining his degree in Music Performance from BIMM London and later being accepted to pursue a Master’s degree in guitar at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He draws from this training to inform both his teaching and performing, developing a deep understanding of technique, musical expression, and versatility across genres.
Alongside his academic background, Tom maintains an active professional performing career as a live and session musician. He has performed with artists including Fimiguerrero and alongside acclaimed folk musician Ralph McTell, reflecting his adaptability across musical styles. His performances include venues such as O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, O2 Academy Islington, and Jazz Cafe, as well as major UK festivals including Love Saves The Day and Victorious Festival.
Tom takes a practical and hands-on approach to learning music, often comparing it to learning a language. While strong technical foundations and theory are important, he believes real understanding develops through playing, listening, and musical interaction.
He prepares personalised lessons for each student, considering their age and learning style, teaching guitar at all levels from beginner to advanced, and piano and bass up to intermediate level. Tom is patient, understanding, and encouraging, giving students the confidence to explore, make mistakes, and develop self-belief while enjoying the instrument.
He holds an Enhanced DBS certificate and has extensive experience working within London primary schools, delivering both individual tuition and group instrumental programmes. Tom teaches a wide range of musical styles including jazz, classical, rock, pop, blues, funk, and contemporary genres, and is also experienced in music notation, advanced theory, and studio recording using Logic Pro.
Whether you’re just starting out, returning to music, or looking to refine your skills, Tom’s lessons offer a supportive, engaging space to explore your musical potential.
